Rep. Cory Gardner speaks at press conference about progress on U.S. 36 between Lyons and Estes Park near Lyons on Sept. 8. (Mark Leffingwell, Boulder Daily Camera)

The silence from the family-values crowd about Rep. Cory Gardner’s proposal to make birth-control pills available over the counter to anyone 24/7 is quite notable. What kind of message is Gardner sending to all the impressionable teens out there? Maybe the religious right understands this is a Gardner ploy — just like the GOP plan to balance the budget by cutting taxes or to repeal and replace Obamacare with their own comprehensive health care plan, which is sure to be released any day now.
