chorus: Planina’s harmonious, haunting sounds of the Balkan region

Wednesday. Oh, Denver, you are so much more interesting then people give you credit for being. Full of the offbeat, the exceptional, the enchanting. Like Planina, the Balkan chorus that keeps the traditions of Eastern European singing ringing through the Rocky Mountain region. Planina’s members aren’t necessarily Balkan, but they share an enthusiasm and dedication to the folk music of Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, Russia, Turkey and other countries. The group does its research, striving for authenticity by studying recordings, attending workshops and traveling to foreign lands to learn about field songs and dance tunes that originated generations ago. They wear great costumes, too. Hear them at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln St. $10. 303-839-5100 or .
