family fun: Puppet show to premiere at Boulder Fringe
saturday-sept. 27. Lafayette-based Public Works Theatre Company is one of a handful in Colorado specializing in family entertainment, which also helps it stand out among the edgy offerings at the annual Boulder International Fringe Festival. This year, Public Works is presenting its puppetry-driven modern folk tale “Wanda and the Wave,” which premieres after a series of workshop shows last year and a prestigious grant from the Jim Henson Foundation. Adapted by artistic director Sondra Blanchard from Shelley Jackson’s book “The Old Woman & the Wave,” the multilingual family show features puppetry, live music and sound effects and — as is often crucial at kid-oriented shows — audience interaction. Shows run at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 20, and 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 27 at The Dairy Center, 2590 Walnut St. in Boulder. $5-$12. 303-440-7826 or . John Wenzel
