Maybe I’m squeamish or maybe it’s the confluence of events that has me riled. On the same day that cable TV news is full of bombing coverage in Syria, Showtime unveiled what it claims is wonderful providing “tactile” sensations to accompany the new season of “Homeland” for those watching via Android devices.

Once you install a certain update on your Android phone or device, “the video will offer a multi-layered sensory experience through the use of tactile feedback. As fans watch the trailer on their mobile devices, they experience nuanced haptic effects” for a more immersive experience. You can be right there with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) as she faces life-threatening danger in her new job as Chief of Station at the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. The visceral thrill of bombings in the news not jarring enough for you? Get the latest haptic high tech.

“For example, viewers can feel the tactile effects when a bomb explodes and sense the drama building with an orchestrated combination of sight, sound and touch.” They say this is the first time haptic technology has ever been used in a video on mobile devices.

Pardon me if I’d rather not feel the tactile effects of a bomb explosion while real-life war rages and terror threats remain high.
