Bugle call
Estes Park’s 17th annual Elk Fest is Oct. 4-5. This festival at Bond Park offers elk-viewing bus tours, an elk bugling contest, exhibits, seminars, American Indian music and storytelling, the famous Mountain Man Rendezvous and more. Admission to Elk Fest is free, and tickets for elk-viewing tours are $5.
Scary movies
The fifth annual Telluride Horror Show is Oct. 10-12. The festival brings more than 25 of the latest horror, fantasy and sci-fi films to Telluride’s Sheridan Opera House and Nugget Theatre. Tickets are $10 per film; $84 gets you a three-day pass.
Spirited fest
The Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival is Oct. 24-26, featuring artisan spirit and small-batch distiller seminars, a tasting event, plus historic saloon and walking tours throughout town. Tasting tickets begin at $25.
Coffin races
The legend of Emma Crawford lives on at the Manitou Springs Emma Crawford Coffin Races Oct. 25. The day includes a parade, ghost tours and more than 50 teams of costumed impersonators of Emma Crawford racing coffin-like contraptions.
