The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has paid more than $110,000 in legal fees charged by multiple agencies investigating financial and employee-related complaints against it and Sheriff Terry Maketa.
The accounting firm RubinBrown has charged the county $85,190 as of Monday, read a document provided to The Gazette. The bill for the law firm Sherman & Howard, LLC, was $28,220.88. Mountain States Employers Council, hired by Sherman & Howard to help with the investigation, has billed the county $1,350.24.
The total bill paid by the Sheriff’s Office was $114,761.12, as of Monday. The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the transfer for the bill Sept. 9, said El Paso County spokesman Dave Rose.
Line-item information for the billing could not be released, Rose wrote in an email, because of the ongoing investigation. The total does not include the $10,000 the county paid Pamela Mackey to represent Maketa, Rose said.
