Denver Sheriff Department deputies plan to rally Monday afternoon outside the Downtown Detention Center.
The 1 p.m. event is being organized by the Fraternal Order of Police Denver Sheriff Lodge No. 27, which represents deputies in collective bargaining.
The FOP says deputies do not have support from the city’s administration after a series of negative stories in the media. The group said that, as a result, the situation has created a security and safety crisis in the jails because inmates believe they can attack deputies with impunity.
The FOP said rank-and-file deputies have had two meetings with Stephanie O’Malley, executive director of the Denver Department of Public Safety, but she has not responded to their concerns.
The group is asking off-duty deputies, families and friends to attend.
