Matter of time. I would love to see the release of kicker Matt Prater come back to haunt the Broncos. Of course, he would have to be picked up by somebody on Denver’s 2014 schedule to have a fully joyful impact.
Brian, kicking and screaming
Kiz: Broncos coach John Fox admitted it was “leap of faith” to entrust the kicking duties to young Brandon McManus. Well, it also seems obvious the Broncos lost the faith in Prater, no longer trusting he is worth the money or trouble. At the risk of oversimplifying the situation, consider this: An NFL team cannot afford to cut a No. 2 draft pick when he messes up. A kicker? That’s a different story.
In orange we trust. I’m in shock about Prater’s release from the Broncos. But I trust them. The Broncos know what they’re doing.

Kiz: If you mess with the Super Bowl dream of John Elway, you’re gone. I believe the release of Prater was more than an example of how tough a business pro football can be. His release sent a not-so-subtle message to the Denver locker room.
Signature salute. In Green Bay, there’s the NFL tradition of the Lambeau Leap to celebrate a Packers touchdown. I thought we had something that was 75,000 times better as a show of spirit of Denver: the Mile High Salute. I think it should be brought back as a significant part of every TD or major defensive stop. It should be executed by every Broncos player, and by every fan in the stands. What better way to respect and honor the team? It’s dignified, wild and fun, and it’s ours. The new stadium definitely needs an identity, and this just might be it.
Ken, proud to be Broncomaniac
Kiz: Fun idea, but … after seeing the uproar about the president saluting with a cup of coffee in his hand, I fear mixing football with military also mixes the message about true heroes.
Sunday forecast. I like getting linebacker Danny Trevathan back on the field, and don’t see Arizona QB Drew Stanton putting up too many points. My pick: Broncos 24, Cardinals 17.
Kelyn, soothsayer
Kiz: The Broncos will jell. Not certain it’s this week. My pick: Broncos 24, Cards 23. Arizona ain’t shabby.
Mr. Mean. And today’s parting shot is a short and sweet reaction by a reader who thought it was impolite for me to ask Fox whether the Broncos’ running game stinks.
You r (sic) mean.
