People threw rocks and bottles at police, ripped street signs from the ground and destroyed other property when a riot broke out near Colorado State University in Fort Collins on Saturday night.

Police came to a home in the 700 block of Blevins Court at 10:50 p.m., Officer Matthew Johnson said Sunday.

“A large party with several hundred people were pouring out into the cul-de-sac,” he said.

As police approached, some of the partygoers began to throw rocks and bottles and brandished street signs they had pulled up.

The officers on the scene pulled back and called for help, Johnson said.

CSU police and Larimer County sheriff’s deputies responded along with 30 additional Fort Collins officers.

By 12:20 a.m., there were enough officers on the scene, but the crowd had dispersed, Johnson said.

No arrests were made.

Police are investigating the incident and expect to make arrests in the future, Johnson said.

Many of the officers were equipped with body cameras, and the video they shot could help identify some participants in the disturbance.

Over the years, Johnson said, police have responded to trouble in the same area.

In early April, a party host called police when a party that began with 20 people turned into a 200-person mob, according to the Coloradoan.

Rioters lobbed rocks and bottles at officers who came to break up the party.

The latest disturbance followed the CSU Rams football team’s 42-17 win over Tulsa at Hughes Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Johnson said he didn’t know if the game was a contributing factor.

“There was a fair bit of destruction,” he said.
