Police in Durango arrested a 14-year-old Friday accused of sexually assaulting of a 6-year-old and investigators believe there may be more victims.
Investigators did not release the gender or name of either juvenile.
The teen allegedly enticed and lured the 6-year-old on Thursday from the company of two other children. The teen then led the young child into a wooded area where the 6-year-old was sexually assaulted, police said.
“The victim sustained no serious physical injury in the incident,” police said.
The teen was placed into La Plata County’s juvenile detention facility. Police say the case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
The teen faces possible charges of sexual assault on a child, enticement of a child and unlawful sexual contact.
“Currently detectives are investigating the possibility of at least one additional juvenile victim related to this case,” police said.
Durango police ask that anyone with information related to the crime or the suspect call detective Burke Baldwin at (970) 375-4734.
