Ryan Murphy is expanding his scope from surreal horror to true crime: FX will pair “American Horror Story” with Murphy’s new “American Crime Story,” with the first installment focused on O.J. Simpson, the network announced Tuesday.
“American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” is based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the New Yorker writer and CNN legal analyst. The 10-episode first season is to begin production next year.
“American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers that explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.”
FX made the announcement on the eve of the premiere of “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” the latest installment of the “AHS” franchise.
