The Pueblo Police Department is asking drivers of vehicles involved in a Sunday morning attempted car jacking to assist in the ongoing investigation, officials said.
Pueblo police were dispatched to 1700 Erie around 8:20 a.m. Sunday on a report of a stolen truck, according to a news release by the City of Pueblo Police Department. The truck belonged to R. Buck Heating and Air Conditioning, and the owner was tracking it with GPS, the release said.
The truck was tracked to the 1000 block of Fearnow where officers found the vehicle and two men unloading tools from the utility box, the release said. The officers took Michael Martinez, 33, into custody, but the second suspect, 24-year-old Anthony Vallejos, fled.
Police said he ran onto Highway 47 and tried to stop three vehicles “in an attempt to escape.” After the failed attempts, he ran up the green belt toward 4th Street where the release said he pulled a gun out of his waist band and threw it on the ground.
Officers then caught up with Vallejos and took him into custody.
Martinez and Vallejos are on parole and were transported to Pueblo County Detention Center, police said. They were booked on “an assortment of charges including burglary and auto theft.”
Police are asking drivers of the vehicles Vallejos attempted to stop to call 719-553-2502 to assist in the investigation.
