Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said that retail prices have fallen at a much faster rate in recent days.
He said that 48 out of 50 states saw average price declines in the past week. Some of the largest declines have occurred in the Midwest, where more and more stations are under the $3 a gallon mark, he said.
“Motorists should be seeing continued drops in gas prices across much of the United States in the week ahead as gas prices catch up to the recent decrease in crude oil prices,” said DeHaan in a statement.
GasBuddy operates and more than 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at more than 140,000 gas stations in the United States and Canada.
