Re: “Shame on Democrats who are running from President Obama,” Oct. 13 letter to the editor.

Contrary to Walt Newcomb’s letter, Democrats are running from President Obama because they have eyes that see and ears that hear. They are not stupid. Why carry a great weight that is so heavy when you are in a tight race? The quicker they shed the weight, the faster down the road to the finish. Sure, Obama was their guy. But that is no more. There is no gain in living today in the past.

Letter-writer Walt Newcomb has it exactly right. No one, particularly a Republican, could or would have done what President Obama has accomplished, particularly with a deliberately disengaged House. Obama is likely the most accomplished, capable, aware, informed, effective president this nation has ever had. He is despised by Republicans for saving this nation from their programs, policies, ideas and attitudes. If Democratic candidates reject those facts, they indeed are unfit for office.
