TORONTO — Avalanche loses 3-2 in overtime at Toronto. Game story . The notebook should be posted soon. I’m writing Wednesday for Thursday about rookie RW Dennis Everberg, who is doing everything well except finishing. The rest of this blog is about the Jarome Iginla-Dion Phaneuf confrontation that officials separated. Iginla and Phaneuf played together in Calgary for 4.5 seasons, starting in 2005, with Iggy serving as captain. Yet, they dropped the gloves after a whistle at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday, following a Phaneuf skirmish with the Avs’ Jamie McGinn, but officials didn’t let Iggy and Phaneuf go. I found it disappointing.
Iginla called Phaneuf “a good buddy of mine, and I really enjoyed playing with him for years.”
He added: “It was just a heat-of-the-moment thing and I didn’t want to make my liney fight — Ginner got right in there, I had a feeling, and I didn’t want him to fight for me. So that was fine, the way it unfolded. I hadn’t fought too many buddies in years, it’s just the way it goes. I don’t mind playing hard and stuff, it’s just a heat-of-the-moment thing, and I imagine it’s both ways.”
