Another poll in Colorado’s U.S. Senate race shows Republican Cory Gardner with a solid lead over Democratic incumbent Mark Udall.

Gardner took 47 percent and Udall 41 percent in the Quinnipiac University survey of likely voters.

Another 8 percent supported independent candidate Steve Shogan, and 6 percent remain undecided.

The margin of error for the poll, released Thursday, was plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points.

It is the latest in a string of recent polls showing Gardner with the advantage in the race, although most show a much closer race.

gave Gardner a 2-point edge, 45 percent to 43 percent. Two other polls this week — and — showed Gardner with a 4-point lead.

Together, the four polls — conducted in overlapping periods in the past two weeks — indicate that the state’s high-profile Senate race is favoring Republicans at a key moment in the election season.

The state began mailing ballots to voters this week, and the candidates are beginning to making their final pushes ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

“With 19 days to go, can U.S. Sen. Mark Udall close a 6 percentage point gap in this marquee race that could tip the Senate to the GOP, or will U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner prevail?” asked Tim Malloy, the poll’s assistant director.

The Quinnipiac survey showed independents favoring Gardner 42 percent to 39 percent and women favoring Udall 49 percent to 40 percent.

Those two key swing blocs will help decide the election, according to political forecasters, who suggest Democrats need to win women by double-digits to overcome Republican advantages in the midterm election.

A gives Gardner a 2-point lead, while puts it near 3 points.

A month ago, Quinnipiac giving Gardner an 8-point lead, the first of 10 different polls showing Gardner with the edge. Before then, surveys consistently showed Udall with the advantage. Only once since early September has Udall led in a poll.

But the September poll from Quinnipiac and about whether the polls are adequately gauging Democratic support.
