Like a miniature version of its namesake, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s is all over the map when it comes to invoking and celebrating nerd culture.
featured the CSO performing songs from the “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” and “Lord of the Rings” films alongside video game scores (including the work of Denver native and guest conductor , such as ), superhero themes and more.
This year’s event has promised to expand on last year’s successful first outing with more Batman (which makes sense, given the debut of “Gotham” on TV), Beetlejuice and some returning favorites.

“We are partnering with pretty much every geek-related organization in town, which is awesome and a very exciting audience development experiment for us,” CSO media relations director Laura Bond told me via e-mail. “For the first show in the ‘Geek Package’ (Animaniacs), roughly 50 percent of audience members were first-time CSO goers. There will be a mini-Comic Con vibe in the lobby once again.”
So what else can we expect at the show?
