Family Fun: Día de los Muertos to bring out colorful crowd
Nov. 1. The annual Día de los Muertos celebration at Denver Botanic Gardens, included with the admission price (or free for members), is an improbably rich cultural experience at a place better known for its plant life and sculptural exhibits. The family-friendly event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 1 with activities that invoke the traditional Mexican spirit of the holiday, which truly is a celebration of life that its “Day of the Dead” moniker may not fully capture. Kids can decorate sugar skulls and paper altars, plant commemorative flora, make papel picado necklaces, get their faces painted for $5 and, of course, dress up in their best, most Halloween-appropriate duds. Costumed processions led by La Danza Guadalupana Matachina take place 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. 1007 York St. $9-$15. 720-865-3501 or . John Wenzel
