
Jefferson County Open Space is celebrating its acquisition of Golden Cliffs Preserve, a premier rock-climbing spot on North Table Mountain in Golden.
A celebration from 3-4 p.m. Oct. 24 is open to the public with light refreshments served and attendance by representatives of the Access Fund — — members of the climbing community and representatives of Jeffco Open Space.
Golden Cliffs is 29 acres at the south side of and has long been one of the area’s most popular climbing spots. It was originally owned by Mayford Peery, who welcomed climbers to use its cliffs starting more than 50 years ago but closed it in 1994 with concerns about liability issues.
He later donated the property to the Access Fund to open it back up to the public. The organization has since managed the property, installing an unpaved access road, a 52-car parking lot, a vault toilet, signs and trails.
The Access Fund announced . The transfer was recently finalized, with the condition that it remain open to climbing.

Directions to peery trailhead
From State Highway 93, turn at Washington Avenue and take the third left onto First Street. Turn right at Partridge Circle and take the first right onto Ptarmigan Street. Ptarmigan turns right and becomes Peery Drive. Stay to the left onto Peery Parkway. Follow the lower dirt road to the right for the main Golden Cliffs parking lot. The property boundary begins at the parking area entrance.
