Contractors big and small will be in Denver on Wednesday to hear plans for two of the biggest proposed road projects in state history.

Hosted by the Colorado Department of Transportation, the event at the Colorado Convention Center is being billed as an “informational and networking session.”

CDOT officials will present overviews of two large upcoming projects: the widening and possible tolling of both and

The confab will include goal-setting for disadvantaged businesses and workforce development. There also will be a prime contractor and small-business panel discussion focusing on best practices and how to engage local businesses on large projects with meaningful and high-value work, CDOT said.

The meeting will be invaluable for contractors to line up partnerships and to learn how to vie for CDOT work, said executive director Don Hunt.

“The improvements planned for I-70 east and C-470 will ultimately change the face of transportation in the Denver metro area,” said Hunt. “These same projects also have the potential to impact the landscape of small and local businesses. We want to provide every opportunity for businesses of all sizes to be part of this success.”

The $1.8 billion East I-70 plan to widen the interstate to 10 lanes of traffic and run the highway below grade at the Elyria and Swansea neighborhoods is considered the largest highway project of its kind in state history. It also has attracted critics who say it will lead to an environmental disaster. One proposal would move I-70 out of Denver entirely.

Limited space is available at Wednesday’s event (4 to 7:30 p.m.), and CDOT encourages interested participants to RSVP at For more information, call 720-624-6728 or e-mail info@connect2dot.org.
