Re: “Bus rapid transit on Colfax makes sense,” Oct. 16 guest commentary.

Despite what Will Toor cites as “an extensive study” of bus rapid transit on Colfax from Auraria to Anschutz, the Colfax corridor is not the place for any such type of “upgrade,” whether it be a BRT bus or trolley line. Here’s why: 1) There are way too many traffic lights and pedestrian crosswalks between Auraria and Anschutz, so “dedicated lanes,” especially during rush hours, will never work because everybody has to travel at the same pace as everybody else. 2) All the major streets that bisect Colfax will still be in place, and cannot be re-routed without enormous extra cost. 3) All neighborhoods bordering Colfax include tens of thousands of folks who already walk or bicycle through the area to restaurants, shops, theaters, etc. 4) You can’t force people to give up their cars.

The present Colfax limited bus works just fine. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
