BOULDER — Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre does not appear as concerned about the 11 interceptions thrown this season by sophomore Sefo Liufau as some fans may be.
Liufau ranks fifth among Pac-12 quarterbacks in passing average (284.4 yards per game), and his 23 touchdown passes are fourth best.
But the 11 interceptions lead the conference — in a negative way.
“I think Sefo has broken the school record (single-season TD passes), so I think he’s done pretty good,” MacIntyre said Monday following the morning practice.
“Some of his interceptions weren’t his fault in that situation. Some of them were. I think he’s played well enough for us to win football games,” MacIntyre added. “If I felt like the quarterback was the reason we were losing football games, then I would make a change. I haven’t felt like that.”
Injury updates. MacIntyre said starting safety Tedric Thompson has a concussion and is listed as day-to-day for Saturday’s home game against Washington.
“He’s got a chance (to play) but he got a good one,” McIntyre said of the concussion.
A sophomore, Thompson was injured while making a tackle during the first overtime period last weekend in . He complained of a neck issue and was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for precautionary reasons. Thompson was released from the hospital Saturday night after tests on his neck proved negative. …
Backup safety Marques Mosley, a junior, tore an ACL during the game last weekend and will undergo season-ending knee surgery, MacIntyre said. …
Linebacker Addison Gillam (flu-like symptoms) returned to practice Monday.
