Contractors are demolishing and rebuilding the Jersey Cutoff bridge in Denver because of design flaws in the original structure, said Phil Washington, general manager of the Regional Transportation District.
The Jersey Cutoff bridge is part of RTD’s Eagle P3 commuter rail project. The 506-foot bridges allows the Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight spur track to pass underneath and head east into Globeville and connect with railroad’s mainline behind the National Western Complex.
But “deficiencies in design” in the bridge prompted the contractors on the Eagle P3 project to demolish it and build another, Washington told the RTD board of directors Tuesday night.
Contractors will pay for the work, Washington said. “RTD is not paying a dime for bringing down this bridge or its rebuilding,” he said.
