Getting your player ready...

BOULDER — Although his Colorado football team stands 2-6 overall and is winless in five Pac-12 games, Buffs coach Mike MacIntyre was in good spirits Tuesday during his weekly media luncheon.

A good morning practice will do that for a coach.

“I keep getting asked, ‘How do you keep your players going?'” MacIntyre said. “Well, it’s their work ethic, their focus, their intensity during meetings, during practice. I thought today’s was an excellent Tuesday practice. They went out there and went after it. They did an excellent job.

“I thought today was one of our best Tuesday practices of the entire year. That, I think, answers the question of how they keep their spirits up. Anytime you’re down or depressed or worried about something, the best thing to do is go back to work. You get busy and try to find a way to fix it. I see these young men doing that.”

MacIntyre’s mantra continues to be, “Go 1-0 this week.’ Then, he adds, try to go 1-0 against next week.

That’s the way, he believes, to bounce back from disappointment, even a double-overtime loss to No. 25 UCLA.

Colorado hosts Washington (5-3, 1-3) Saturday with an 11 a.m. kickoff at Folsom Field.

“I say this over and over, but you come back and you try to go 1-0 (for that week) again,” he said. “Every game is its own season. You only get so many chances to play. Every game you have you give all you have. I think our young men have understood that.

“They see improvement. We show them that. We all want ‘W’s.’ But if you keep working, keep working on the process, keep working at your trade, success will come. If you stop working at your trade and give in, success will not come. That’s a process in anybody’s business, in anybody’s life.”
