More than 40 pallets of ballots were unloaded from a truck at a U.S. Postal facility in Denver on Oct. 15, where they will be sorted for delivery. (John Leyba,The Denver Post)

Last night I completed marking my ballot for the November midterm elections. Never before have I had such a palpable sense of voting for the “lesser of evils.” While this feeling is probably strongest, for me, in connection with the race for governor, it has its roots in several of the contests. It is becoming clearer to me why people despair and don’t bother to vote at all. With extreme partisanship driving candidates from the middle, itap easy to foresee politics in America spiraling to some pretty unappealing places.
