LONGMONT — Parents at Longmont’s Silver Creek High School are lobbying for a later start time, saying research shows teens simply aren’t wired to wake up that early.

The parents are working with Gary Kahn, a family practice and preventative medicine doctor who worked on a similar, successful effort at Boulder’s Fairview High School.

Both Fairview and Boulder High pushed back their start times from about 7:30 a.m. to about 8 a.m. a few years ago.

Frank Lee, who’s leading the Silver Creek effort, said the high school’s 7:15 a.m. start is one of the earliest in the St. Vrain Valley School District.
