SAN JOSE, Calif. — CSU standout sophomore receiver Rashard Higgins suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter of the Rams’ 38-31 victory over San Jose State on Saturday.
The injury happened on a 55-yard reception.
Coach Jim McElwain wasn’t certain of the seriousness of the injury.
“Rashard landed on his shoulder, and we’ll see how that is next week,” said McElwain, who also noted that quarterback Garrett Grayson played through a groin injury.
“He did the greatest Willis Reed impression I’ve ever seen, limping out there for every possession,” McElwain said. “We’ll see what it is; sounds like a groin or something.”
Grayson said a sideline conversation with McElwain went this way: “He came up to me and said, you know, there’s a guy named Willis Reed that in the NBA Finals, Game 7, came in and played his butt off and had a heck of a game and won it for them. I didn’t know who he was, and I’m sure (McElwain) is looking at me like I’m an idiot.”
Hart still has it. CSU running back Dee Hart might have lost a step because of knee injuries since his days as one of the top recruits in the country, but he again showed his determination and the willingness to initiate contact rather than just be tackled in gaining 104 yards on 24 carries against the Spartans.
“Coach is preaching a lot about the climb,” said the transfer from Alabama. “We’re not done yet. Eight and one is pretty good, but 9-1 sounds a little better to me.”
