Gabe Landeskog may be looking at a suspension from the NHL after his hit against Corey Perry in the waning seconds of the Avalanche’s 3-2 loss to Anaheim in Colorado on Sunday.

Landeskog could receive a suspension in the neighborhood of 1-3 games, if we judge by recent penalties levied by the NHL.

Landeskog was called for a two-minute charging penalty with 20.2 seconds remaining, effectively snuffing any comeback chance the Avs had with Semyon Varlamov pulled for an extra skater.

On the hit, Landeskog approaches Perry in the corner of the Ducks’ zone. The problem with the hit was that Landeskog’s point of impact was Perry’s head. The Colorado captain rose up off his skates and delivered an elbow to Perry’s head. Here’s the video:

On Monday, Edmonton’s Andrew Ference was for his hit against Vancouver’s Zack Kassian in the middle of the zone. Here’s video of that hit:

And on Sunday, the NHL docked Nashville’s Anton Volchenkov four games for his hit to the head of Calgary’s Michael Ferland. claimed the penalty was too harsh. with the NHL’s explanation.

But both Ference and Vonchenkov are repeat offenders, with suspensions from similar hits in the past. So their multi-game suspensions might be more harsh than what is given to Landeskog.

The NHL did not release news of any penalties against Landeskog during the day Monday. But the week is still young. Stay tuned for updates…
