Re: “An effort to end pensions in Colorado,” Nov. 2 My Turn column.
John MacPherson argues that the discussion around retirement security for Colorado’s public servants “is not a trivial conversation.” Yet he then trivializes it by avoiding the substantive questions of fairness raised by the Colorado Pension Project, instead attempting to demonize one of the projectap backers and inaccurately speculating on our motives.
We have a broad and growing list of supporters, including bipartisan support from two former governors, Richard Lamm and Bill Owens, and an array of state leaders.
We value educators and other public servants and believe they are essential to our state. Among other issues, we’re concerned that the majority are losing out under the current structure of Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA).
Why is MacPherson so wary of the “conversation” we propose?
We encourage anyone who thinks this is a discussion worth having to join in at ColoradoPensionProject.com.
