Interview with Nathan Flatland, president
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I was an avid home brewer for two years before starting the company. I decided to take it to a commercial level when I had enough feedback validating the quality of the beer I made.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are a brewery that is in the Aurora Cultural Arts District. We strive to merge visual art with the art of making beer. The artists in our district come in and make a beer that they want to have at their showcase that we put on monthly at Mu Brewery.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The work and effort that goes into making beer makes that first sip of the final product so rewarding.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: We are overcoming a stigma that our area of town is undesirable. We have so many great things happening in downtown Aurora and we are working to spread the word about how great our district is. We have fantastic theaters like the Aurora Fox Arts Center, the Vintage Theatre and Ignite Theatre, and several talented artists and great family owned restaurants in our area.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: Every quarter, our team puts together a day to work in our community. We do weeding, painting, mulching, plant trimming and many other revitalization efforts to help make our part of town look more inviting.
