Interview with Bethany Walters, owner/licensed massage therapist
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I found my way to massage therapy when I was involved in a car accident as a young adult. After seeking many different treatments for pain relief, I received a therapeutic massage. Not only did I fall in love with massage therapy, but I realized that I wanted to provide this treatment to others. I then began my training at the Denver School of Massage Therapy where I graduated with 815 massage credit hours and certification in 13 types of massage. I am now a licensed massage therapist in Colorado and I love my job.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: What differentiates me from other massage businesses is my ability to custom create the perfect massage for every client. I have the flexibility to spend more time with each individual, listen to their specific needs and then create a unique massage for them. Creating a custom treatment by providing relaxation, pain relief and improving health and overall well-being is my goal.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The greatest thing about being a massage therapist is the feeling of building relationships with my regular clients. Knowing that they come back in, week after week, helps me to remember that I get to be a part of making someone’s day better through massage therapy. I get to provide my clients with a therapeutic service that lifts their vitality and helps to facilitate their healing process. I love being a massage therapist simply because I can help every individual who comes to see me; having a place in the lives of my clients gives me a place in the world.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest business challenge that I am faced with in massage therapy is finding time to take care of myself when my job is to take care of everyone else.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: People are often surprised to learn that one of my biggest passions — aside from massage therapy — is skydiving. Prior to my massage therapy business, I packed parachutes for skydivers and I then became a licensed jumper. I enjoy many outdoor activities, but skydiving is my favorite sport.
