PARKER — It turned hectic late and the Titans had to sweat it out, but they made another final in their debut season in 4A.

Now 19-0, The Classical Academy took the lead on bunched scoring, then fended off Ponderosa (13-6), which had won four matches in a row. The Titans lost to Colorado Academy in last year’s 3A title game.

Titans goalie Micah Mesward had to be sharp on four different chances in the closing minutes as Ponderosa pressed.

Jaden Borja scored in the 45th minute for The Classical Academy and Jake Slater added another in the 47th minute.

They were enough to advance as it will be an all-Colorado Springs final on Saturday.

Still, Jacob Cade’s goal for Ponderosa with five minutes to play kept it interesting as did additional Mustangs pressure.

Mesward said he was just glad to be able to contribute.

“I think after (the Mustangs) got their first goal, they were just getting all psyched up and pushing us hard,” he said. “We let them push us and get us back on our heels. It got a little scarey. We lost control of the game, but we held on.”

Said Titans coach Blake Galvin: “Our guys worked really hard.”
