BOULDER — The driver involved in a Lefthand Canyon crash last year that left former professional cyclist Dale Stetina with life-threatening injuries was sentenced to 60 hours of community service by a Boulder judge last week.

Ryan Dowd, 40, of Longmont, pleaded guilty to careless driving resulting in injury — the original count in the case — on Aug. 29. In addition to the community service, he will have to pay court costs and restitution. The amount of restitution will be determined at a later hearing.

Careless driving resulting in injury is a Class 1 traffic offense and is punishable by up to a year in jail.

But Stetina’s brother said he was OK with the sentence.
