Police in Denver are investigating an early Thursday stabbing that left a man dead in the Park Hill neighborhood.

The stabbing happened about 12:30 a.m. on the 3500 block of Elm Street. The victim, who police did not identify, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say they arrested James Robert Morrison, 28, who is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. Investigators, who were still on scene Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m., believe Morrison and the victim were acquaintances.

“Detectives are interviewing witnesses and involved parties,” police said, adding that more information on the stabbing will be released Thursday afternoon.

Tracey Lee, a neighbor who lives across the street from where the stabbing happened, says roughly a dozen people live in the home where the stabbing is alleged to have occurred.

“I didn’t know someone got stabbed, but it doesn’t surprise me,” she said, adding that officers are at the house about once a month.

Lee says she doesn’t think all the residents are related.

Investigators on Thursday morning were moving in and out of the home, processing the scene.

Police said the Denver Medical Examiner will release the victim’s name and cause of death.
