dance: Thunderous moves from China

Tuesday. We may not be getting a large quantity of dance in Denver these days, but we seem to be getting high quality. Much of that comes courtesy of the Newman Center, which brings in the captivating BeijingDance/LDTX this week. The LDTX translates as “Thunder Rumbles Under Heaven,” and this Chinese company has a reputation for original choreography and athleticism. It also makes a political statement — intended or not — as one of the few high-profile artistic endeavors that operates apart from government sanction. The company tours the world and hosts a renowned Beijing Dance Festival, introducing international moves to a country increasingly mixing Western art with its traditional styles. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18, Newman Center, 2344 E. Iliff Ave. $31-$49. 303-871-7720 or .
