College football coaches have told me for years — OK, decades — that a team can never have enough defensive linemen.

So it should come as no surprise that Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre and his staff have received an oral commitment from another one: Jordan Carrell from American River (Junior) College in Sacramento, Calif.

Carrell is listed at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds with room to fill out. According to BuffStampede.com, an affiliate of Rivals.com, Carrell said CU liked his quickness and especially his explosiveness off the snap.

He has been rather lightly recruited, also receiving offers from Cal-Poly, Weber State and Idaho, according to BuffStampede.com. But I always defer to coaches during recruiting, and if CU’s staff believes Carrell can make an impact for the Buffs, that’s good enough for me until Carrell shows what he can do at CU.

The good news is Carrell plans to earn his J.C. associates degree in December, which means he can enroll at CU in January and participate in spring drills. He will have three years to play two for the Buffs.

Carrell became the sixth defensive linemen to commit to Colorado for the current recruiting cycle, joining DE T.J. Fehoko (6-1, 245) of Salt Lake City; DE Nathaniel Robbins (6-5, 260) of Milledgeville, Ga.; DT Boogie Sewell (6-0, 295) of St. George, Utah; DT Brett Tonz (6-3, 265) of Peoria, Ariz.; and DT Lyle Tuiloma (6-2, 283) of Waianae, Hawaii.
