BROOMFIELD — Community Food Share aims to collect 75,000 pounds of food and $20,000 through its Let’s Bag Hunger food drive. The drive, which starts Sunday and runs through Nov. 26, supports 50 Broomfield and Boulder County organizations that serve residents in need.

The Let’s Bag Hunger drive is one of Community Food Share’s most significant food drives of the year, and has been part of the organization for 30 of its 33 years, said Terry Tedeschi, Community Food Share development director.

For each dollar donated, the organization can provide three meals.

Last year, Community Food Share set a goal of collecting 85,000 pounds of food, but reduced the goal this year, because other organizations, churches and groups are also holding food drives, she said.

Tedeschi said this year’s Let’s Bag Hunger drive is still as important as ever for the community. Though the recession is fading away, residents still struggle with food insecurity and finding jobs that keep up with their everyday expenses.

“The economy is getting better, but low-income people don’t get to benefit from that, either because they’ve lost jobs and haven’t gotten them back, or they are seasonal workers” or are underemployed, she said.

Those seeking to contribute to the Let’s Bag Hunger drive can bring nonperishable food items to one of 12 locations, including participating King Soopers locations in Broomfield, Boulder, Lafayette and Louisville.
