The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued a poor visibility warning from Sunday evening through Monday evening in the seven-county Denver-Boulder metropolitan area.

The department is asking metro Denver residents to limit driving and put out indoor fires until 4 p.m. Monday.

The Action Day for Visibility goes into effect at 4 p.m. Sunday.

“Poor visibility and an exceedance of the state visibility standard are expected on Monday. Otherwise, good or moderate air quality conditions are expected,”the department release said.

Residential burning restrictions require homes below 7,000-feet elevation to put out their fireplaces, the release said.

The CDPHE said there are exceptions for homes with Environmental Protection Agency-certified Phase II stoves or inserts, pellet stoves or masonry heaters and people who use a stove as their primary source of heat.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, the department said air quality was moderate but was expected to reach the poor category due to light winds.
