FORT MORGAN, Colo. (AP) — A shelter for homeless people in Fort Morgan is closing at the end of the year for lack of money.

The Fort Morgan Times reported Monday (http://tinyurl.com/lnc9owy ) Caring Ministries plans to shut down the shelter on Dec. 31 and put the building up for sale.

Executive Director Debora Beck-Massey says the organization’s food bank and other services will continue.

She says the organization was reluctant to close the shelter but donations became too scarce.

Beck-Massey says it costs at least $97,500 a year to run the shelter. It housed 28 families and 70 singles in 2013.

Caring Ministries’ food bank helped nearly 1,800 families and 900 singles last year.
