ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — The trial for an Aspen dog-sledding operator facing animal cruelty charges has been delayed until spring.
The Aspen Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/11icms0 ) that a Pitkin county judge delayed the trial of Dan MacEachen until spring.
MacEachen faces eight criminal charges of animal cruelty as owner of the Krabloonik dog-sledding operation. He was charged last December after eight dogs were seized by the district attorney’s office. The dogs were reportedly malnourished and in need of veterinary care.
MacEachen has denied that he mistreats the dogs, though he has made several changes to his operation to improve the animals’ conditions.
MacEachen’s attorney sought the delay because of another trial and ongoing plea-agreement negotiations.
The newspaper says MacEachen is under contract to sell Krabloonik to a couple with dog-sledding experience in Idaho.
