Eleven members of a Denver Public Schools high school wrestling team and two adult coaches were rescued Saturday from Roxborough State Park after they had gotten lost during a team workout, according to Douglas County sheriff’s deputies.

The members of the wrestling squad were located after dark about three miles from the head of the Colorado Trail near the South Platte River, at about 7 p.m., several hours after some students used cell phones to contact their parents, deputies said.

No one was injured. Deputies said it appeared the team became disoriented and lost when the sun went down.

It was unclear late Saturday for which school the team competes, but deputies said a vehicle with a DPS logo on it was located in the parking lot at the trail head.
