The Broncos will look to rebound without the NFL’s top scoring weapon. Tight end Julius Thomas, who has 12 touchdown receptions, will be inactive for Sunday’s home game against the Dolphins, the Post confirmed.
It comes as no surprise. Thomas only briefly practiced Friday — it was closer to not participating — because of his left ankle injury. He was injured when C.J. Anderson rolled up on the back of his legs during a running play last Sunday. Thomas has caught 40 passes for 426 yards, and provides mismatch issues for defensive coordinators, who have employed cornerbacks, safeties and linebackers against him.
Jacob Tamme is expected to start in Thomas’ absence, though Virgil Green, who has been out with a calf injury, will be used for blocking in the running game.
Thomas said last week that “I will go if I can go.” But his ankle never improved enough to permit strenuous activity.
Fox Sports first reported the story.
