GREELEY —For two hours Wednesday night, the Union Colony Preparatory School Board went back and forth on whether to fire a beloved music teacher and the school’s high school soccer coach.

William Reed, 42, was implicated in the disappearance of $2,000 to $5,000 while he was tasked with purchasing and selling pizza to Union Colony secondary students during lunch from August through October.

The recommendation from the school’s faculty council came down Friday: Terminate Reed’s contract.

Wednesday night, he was vindicated, as the board split its vote on that recommendation 3-3, far from the five out of six needed to fire Reed.

During the two hours of closed-door deliberations, the board called in Reed twice. It called in school director Pat Gilliam, and it called in former school finance officer Katie Wasick, who recently left her position. After the meeting adjourned, the students all clamored for hugs.
