In the wake of even more injuries to the Avs, the team tonight recalled forwards Michael Sgarbossa and Colin Smith from Lake Erie. They will both be available for Monday’s game with the Montreal Canadiens.
Sgarbossa has picked up his play of late with the Monsters. Like much of the team, he started slowly, but had 12 points (three goals) in 18 games, tied for the team scoring lead. One of the two players he was tied with is Smith, the 21-year-old seventh-round pick from 2012. (Stefan Elliott also has 12 points).
Sgarbossa played six games for the Avs in 2012-13, with no points. If Smith plays Monday, it would be his first NHL game.
