The almost balmy weather enjoyed along the Front Range on Saturday gave way to rapidly dropping temperatures, with the chance snow flurries on Sunday.
At 7 a.m, according to the National Weather Service, the temperature was 45 degrees; by 11 a.m. it had dropped to 19 degrees. There was some freezing rain and patchy fog moving in along with the cold, the service said.
The fog caused a number of flights to be diverted from Denver International Airport. At 10 a.m. an airport spokeswoman said about 20 flights had been moved, mainly to Colorado Springs — an hour later that number had increased to about 46.
“Unfortunately, the weather isn’t working with us,” said DIA spokeswoman Laura Coale.
There was about a 20 percent chance of snow overnight, according to the NWS.
A weather service spokeswoman said there wouldn’t be much accumulation and that Monday’s forecast called for mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of about 45 degrees.
