Marijuana-infused edibles are seen for sale at a Denver medical marijuana dispensary. (Denver Post file)
Now that Colorado has “passed the joint,” we see the unintended consequences, just like President Barack Obama peddling insurance.
Drugs dangerous to children ought to be packaged in childproof containers.
Think about a loaded gun accessible to a child. When gun owners purchase weapons and bullets, they are responsible to control access to them, by storing them in a gun safe or utilizing new technology like “smart guns” that can only fire for the intended user.
Gun owners are thus held accountable for others’ safety.
“Don’t Bogart that joint, my friend” … but don’t pass it over to a child.

This letter was published in the Dec. 1 edition. Thanks for the great reporting from the epicenter of marijuana legalization.
No one said marijuana legalization was going to be smooth sailing, and I have to admit there have been some bumps along the way. But banning edibles is not the way to satisfy the demand for these products.
Here’s an idea that can help establish regulations that would satisfy even the drug-free nutjobs: One dose per package, and the edible must be shaped to resemble a marijuana leaf.
