Ralston Valley running back and safety Andrew Wingard was named the 2014-15 Gatorade Colorado Football Player of the Year on Thursday.

The senior rushed for 1,653 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading the Mustangs to a 12-1 record and a trip to the 5A state semifinal. He gave his verbal commitment to play football at the University of Wyoming.

“Andrew Wingard made a huge impact for Ralston Valley this year,” Columbine head coach Andy Lowry said in a statement from Gatorade. “His speed, toughness and strength separate him from other running backs.”

Former Valor Christian star running back Christian McCaffrey won the award the past two seasons.
