Water main breaks Sunday caused some traffic issues and left a few homes without water in Aurora and Arvada.
Aurora Water crews responded to a water main break on Havana Street between Florida Avenue and Idaho Street around 12:30 p.m., said Greg Baker, Aurora Water spokesman.
The city said the center lanes for both northbound and southbound Havana Street would be closed for at least four hours, and Baker said he thinks traffic should be cleared up by about 4 p.m.
Two water main breaks happened Sunday in Arvada, said City of Arvada spokeswoman Maria VanderKolk.
A minor break on West 76th Avenue and Lamar Street was isolated and has left no one without water, VanderKolk.
A break on West 76th Avenue and Webster Way was more significant, VanderKolk said, and was fixed around 8 p.m.
She said there about 16 homes lost water service and 3 or 4 homes had water in their basements.
“We have our restoration company on site helping out with that,” VanderKolk said.
Water service has since been restored to all affected customers, VanderKolk said.
Originally, VanderKolk said there were a few traffic issues concerning the latter break as water began flowing onto Wadsworth Boulevard, but she said that has since been resolved.
“This happens a lot this time of year,” VanderKolk said. “It’s an unfortunate thing, but it’s not uncommon.”
