
As the tech community starts to celebrate Computer Science Week, there are lots of activities aimed at getting kids interested in computers and coding. The week coincides with “,” an event organized by the non-profit .
Organizers just want kids to get exposed to coding and so it doesn’t matter what hour one picks to learn. There are numerous events in the area that children can attend and have a little coding fun. Code.org . A few are listed below.

Hour of Code classes in Adams County
The Adams County library system, Anythink, today starts for children. Includes courses on coding “Angry Birds,” developing a mobile app and teaching a robot how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Hour of Code with MapQuest in Denver
MapQuest employees are hosting an “Hour of Code” for Denver Public School students this week to encourage STEM education careers. Denver schools and parents can contact MapQuest’s Jennifer Asbury by email to get students enrolled.
Online opportunities for Hour of Code
- Code.org’s has numerous tutorials to get kids started, including coding with Anna and Elsa, of Disney’s “Frozen” fame.
- Learn the basics of JavaScript for free over at . The site offers online coding courses free everyday.
- Khan Academy is also promoting its computer science classes this week. Itsincludes drawing, building websites and manipulating databases.
