made his triumphant return to Denver on Thursday, kicking off a three-night, sold out run at the . Through the weekend, Shakey Graves will be in Colorado, where he’s carved a pretty passionate fan base (passionate enough to sell out four shows in the state).

But, why are Colorado listeners so taken with Shakey Graves? Could it be that he successfully balances folk, indie, country and western rock? That’s certainly part of it, given the popularity of all of those genres in this region. Maybe it’s the fact that Denver and Austin, the hometown of Shakey Graves’ Alejandro Rose-Garcia.

“There’s been artists that have always gone between Texas and Colorado pretty consistently,”

Another factor is his work with Denver’s Esme Patterson, which resulted in the hit song “Dearly Departed.”

Shakey Graves’ show at the Bluebird Theater on Thursday featured openers Sean Rowe and Denver band Glowing House. On Dec. 12-13, he’ll play two more sold-out shows at the Bluebird. And after that he plays another sold-out show at the Ivywild School in Colorado Springs — a string of packed houses that he calls “a record.”
